MEN’S A

This was to be an important match for Suffolk, playing against their closest rivals Norfolk.

Suffolk were off to a good start, taking the first three frames, but Norfolk responded by taking the next three to level the match.  Suffolk raised the pressure and at the end of the first session were 8:3 up.  They went on to take the next three frames setting a very difficult target for Norfolk.

Norfolk made a bit of a come back, but just fell short of winning the second session.  Suffolk stepped up a gear and took the third session 7:4 and the fourth session 8:3 to finish the day with a well deserved 29:15 win.  With a point per frame plus a five point bonus for an overall win this brings Suffolk Mens A to 192 points, 41 points ahead of second place Norfolk.

Excellent performances from Steve Lish and Alan Mower, each winning four out of four.  Good results also from Mark Keeble, Trevor Cook and Phil Cullingford each taking three out of four.

MEN’S B

Suffolk B were currently in second place, just six points behind leaders Norfolk.  This was going to be a vital match for either team.  Norfolk had turned up with a very strong side and they meant business.

Suffolk took the first frame, but only managed to take one more in the first session to go 2:9 down.  The second session was more respectable, but still not good enough and Suffolk went into the third session 7:15 down.  Jamie Peck made his debut, winning his first frame for Suffolk and contributing to their 6:5 win in the third session. Suffolk's success was short lived and Norfolk took nine of the last eleven frames to finish the day beating Suffolk B by 29 frames to 15.  This puts Norfolk B at the top of the regional tables closely followed by Bedfordshire.  Suffolk B are now in third place.

The best individual result was from Steve Todd winning three out of four.

LADIES

Suffolk Ladies also wanted a good result today against Norfolk, but with two of their best players down they were going to have to fight to keep their top spot in the regional tables.  The day didn't start exactly how Suffolk had hoped losing the first session 6-5.  Suffolk was not giving up and took the second session 6-5.  The score was now eleven all with everything to play for.  In the third session Suffolk really picked the pace up winning the first six frames and ending the session with a 19-14 lead.  They carried this standard of play on into the forth session and ended the match with an excellent 26-18 win.

Excellent performance from D Pullen winning four out of four frames.  Also good performances from F Calvert, Z Archer, J Skardon, L Willett and R Ozborne.

JUNIORS

No game.

Next match will be away to Cambridgeshire on 9 September.
