MEN’S A

By now, Suffolk Men's A Team had a good lead with 127 points compared to second place Norfolk on 106.  However, they couldnot afford to let their guard down if they wanted to win the Region Four league and go to Great Yarmouth to play in the National Finals early next year.

Suffolk fans were not to be dissapointed as Suffolk took the first session 7:4.  A performance which they repeated for the second and third sessions to go 21:12 ahead.  Herts just managed to take the final session 6:5 to bring the overall score to 26:18 to Suffolk.  With a five point win bonus this brings Suffolk Men's A Team league total to 158 points.

Good performances from Steve Lish, Steve Kane, Sam Bemment, Trevor Cook and Phil Cullingford each winning 3 out of 4 frames.

MEN’S B

The B team did not do as well this time.  Currently in second place in the region on 114 points, 5 points behind leaders Bedfordshire, Suffolk B really needed a good win to stand a chance of taking the overall lead.  This should have been their opportunity with Herts currently at the bottom of the regional rankings on just 75 points.

Suffolk got off to a shaky start losing the first session 6:5.  They managed to pull back just a little in the second session to level the score at 11 all.  Two substitutes were brough in for the third and fourth sessions in an effort to change Suffolk's fortune, but to no avail.  The final score was 22 all, giving Suffolk B just 22 points for frames and just 1 bonus point for the draw.  At half way through the season, there was much work to do during the second half.

Excellent performance from Steve Todd taking 4 out of 4.  Niel Twomey and Sean Whelan each got 3 out of 4.

LADIES

Suffolk Ladies were also top of the league at the start of this match and needed the win to keep it that way.  Things started very well for them as they took the first session 9-2.  In the second session, Herts managed to steal just 2 extra frames than they had in the first with the score now at 16-6 to Suffolk.  With only two sessions remaining, Herts had a huge task on their hands to get a win, but stood no chance against the very strong Suffolk side that only dropped 3 frames in both sessions to finish the match with a massive 35-9 win.

Excellent performances from Janette Skardon, Leah Willett, Fran Calvert and Donna Green, each winning 4 out of 4; also to Kim O'Brien, Clare Seaman, Trudy Acton, Karen Andrews and Deb Pullen, each winning 3 out of 4.

JUNIORS

Suffolk Youths were struggling this season but had not given up.  Once again they had got off to a bad start losing the first session 7-4.  In the second session Suffolk fought back to finish the session 12-10 in the lead.  Suffolk kept up the good work and in the final two sessions only dropped 9 frames ending the match with a 25-19 win for the young Suffolk Team.

Special mention to new boy Mark Jones for winning 3 out of 4 and also to Adam Whyatt, Dylan Thomas, Robert Reed, Matt Purnell and Rory Vaughan each winning 3 out of 4.

Next match will be home to Norfolk on 12 August.
