MEN’S A

By now, the Men's A team had established a strong lead, 41 points ahead of second place Norfolk.  However, with 4 matches still to play, there was no time for complacency.  Cambridgeshire had always had a strong A team and some of their best players were available on the day.

Cambridgeshire took the first two frames, Suffolk equalised.  Cambridgeshire took the next to go 3:2 up.  Suffolk stepped up a gear and took the next six to lead 8:3 after the first session.  Cambridgeshire retaliated and took the next session equally well to level the score 11:11.  Suffolk could not get back into the match and lost the third session to trail Cambridgeshire by 20 points to 17!

Suffolk needed to recover some ground and managed to take the final session 7:4 to finish the match losing by just 4 frames, 24:20.  This adds 20 points to their score line, but elsewhere in the region, second place Norfolk had beaten Essex 29:15 to narrow the gap to 27 points.

Excellent results from M Keeble winning 4 out of 4.  S Kane and S Bemment each won 3 out of 4.

MEN’S B

The B team were currently in third place, 20 points behind second place Bedfordshire and 25 behind leaders Norfolk.  Suffolk now in need of some serious wins and a bit of good fortune.

Suffolk got off to a good start taking the first session 8:3.  Cambridgeshire pulled back a little in the second session, but Suffolk stepped up the pressure and took the third and fourth sessions to finish the match with a well deserved victory 26:18.  Unfortunately, Norfolk also beat Essex 26:18 to maintain their 25 point lead over Suffolk.  Bedfordshire beat Hertfordshire by a massive 30:14 to put them 24 points ahead of Suffolk, just one point behind the leaders.  Suffolk are due to play Bedfordshire in October.

Excellent performance from G Flatt winning 4 out of 4.  Also L Cubitt, J Huggins, J Saunders, R Smith and S Whelan each winning 3 out of 4.

LADIES

Suffolk Ladies are currently top of the region and yet to lose a match.

The ladies started the match well only loosing four frames in the first session to take it 7-4.  The second session was somewhat more of a battle but still Suffolk took it 6-5.  Only losing three out of the next 22 frames Suffolk were on excellent form and ended the match with a massive 32-12 win.

Excellent performance by F Calvert. Also good performances from K Andrews, K O'Brien, D Pullen, L Willett, T Acton, D Green, Z Archer and J Skardon each winning 3 out of 4.

JUNIORS

A depleted Suffolk Youth Squad travelled to Cambridgeshire for what was always going to be a difficult game.

Suffolk Youths got off to a bad start by loosing the first session 8-3. In the second session Cambridgeshire continued their assault by taking the next six frames to lead 14-3 before Suffolk pulled a couple back but ended the second session trailing by 16 frames to 6. Suffolk managed to take both the third and forth sessions 6-5.  This was not enough for the Suffolk Team as Cambridgeshire took the match 26-18.

Special mention to Craig Canham and Sam Jeffrey for both winning 3 out of 4.
